ALEXANDER DORONIN

Alexander Doronin

Russian pianist Alexander Doronin began his undergraduate studies at the Royal College of Music in September 2021 as an ABRSM Scholar. He is currently studying piano with Professor Dmitri Alexeev. From 2015 to 2021, Alexander studied at the Gnessin Moscow Special School (College) of Music with Professor Mikhail Khokhlov (piano) and Olga Martynova (harpsichord). Alexander is an Eileen Rowe Musical Trust award holder and is also supported by the Drake Calleja Trust.

Alexander Doronin has achieved notable success in piano competitions, including First Prize at the Moscow Piano Open International Competition (2019), Third Prize at the European Piano Competition in Bremen, Germany (2024), Second Prize at the International Piano Competition of Lyon (2024), and Second Prize at the Vladimir Krainev Competition for Young Pianists (2019).

He has participated in numerous music festivals, including the XXX International Chopin Piano Festival at Gaming Abbey in Austria; the 4th and 5th Festivals of Russian Chamber Music, “Winter Nights on the Amstel,” in Amsterdam; Dmitri Alexeev’s “Beyond Boundaries” Music Festival in London; Scriabinfest in Moscow (2022); and the Pianissimo Festival in Repino, Saint Petersburg (2021).

As a soloist, he has performed with the Russian National Orchestra, founded and artistically directed by Mikhail Pletnev; the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra, following his First Prize at the Royal College of Music Concerto Competition in 2022, where he performed Prokofiev’s Second Piano Concerto; the City of Cambridge Symphony Orchestra; Yaroslavl Philharmonic Orchestra; Voronezh Youth Symphony Orchestra; and Omsk Symphony Orchestra.

Alexander has given recitals and appeared in concerts in the United Kingdom, Austria, Poland, China, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and in cities throughout Russia. His performances have included the “YAMAHA Stars” series in Sochi (2019), the Loft Philharmonic project, “Summer Evenings in Yelabuga” in Kazan (2021), a piano recital at the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg (2021), and a recital at Steinway Hall in London organised by the Keyboard Trust (2023).
