MICHAEL BROOKS REID

Australian violinist Michael Brooks Reid has an exciting and varied career spanning three continents.

As guest leader/director and member of Camerata Bern, Michael has collaborated with acclaimed soloists including Steven Isserlis, Ian Bostridge, Emanuel Pahud and Patricia Kopatchinskaja, performing in Switzerland, throughout Europe, Central and South America, and Asia.

A member of the Australian World Orchestra, Michael returns home annually to perform under the baton of conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta and Sir Simon Rattle, appearing throughout Australia as well as on tours to Europe and India.

Michael has performed in leader roles with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, German Radio Philharmonic, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Aurora Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Kammerakademie Potsdam, Orquestra Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, and the Melbourne and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras.

A member of the former Hamer Quartet, Michael helped the ensemble to victory across all categories at the inaugural Asia-Pacific International Chamber Music Competition in 2008. Michael remains deeply committed to chamber music and has performed regularly at internationally renowned festivals including Aldeburgh, Hitzacker, Avigdor and — an annual highlight since 2017 — the Joy of Music Festival in Hong Kong.

Michael plays a violin by Nicolo Gagliano, made in Naples in 1751.
